Does the Wi-Fi signal have to reach the garage door opener?
Not necessarily, since the Starter Kit consists of the HOMYHUB CONNECT and the HOMYHUB GARAGE. We could say that the CONNECT acts as a sort of signal extender for the GARAGE(s):
- The HOMYHUB CONNECT is the one that connects to the internet via Wi-Fi, Ethernet or SIM (With an Extra USB Modem adapter).
- The HOMYHUB GARAGE is the one that connects to your garage door motor/control unit/control panel wirelessly by copying your remote control or wired.
The CONNECT and GARAGE communicate wirelessly with a maximum distance of 20 to 30 meters in the best case.
So even if Wi-Fi doesn't reach the garage or fence, the CONNECT can be placed in a location with Wi-Fi coverage as close to the garage as possible, and it will have those extra 20–30 meters to connect the HOMYHUB GARAGE to the internet.
