Proximity opening establishes two states for a door: At home and Out of Home, so it will work when it detects that you go from being “Out of Home” to being “At Home”.
So that the app can know what state you are in, two rings (or circular geofences) are established with a customizable radius (For example100m and 1000m) from the garage door. The app detects when you enter and exit these rings to know when you're returning home and activate the feature.
- You leave home for work in the morning, leaving the 100m and 1000m loops: the “Out of Home” status is set.
- When you return, you go back through both rings and, since you were “Out of Home,” Proximity Unlock will work its magic, and you will receive a notification on your phone.
- If the HOMYHUB app isn't 100% sure you've made the transition from "Out of Home" to "At Home," it will send you an "Opening Suggestion" notification instead.
Will it work every time I approach the door?
No, you have to first enter the “Out of Home” state, exiting the 1000m ring, and then go back through both rings to your home for it to work.
For example, it will work if you drive to and from work, but not if you walk your dog near your house.
Will it work to exit the garage?
No. Proximity only opens the door automatically when you return home. When you go from "away" to "home."
To exit your garage, you can use the app, your car's display with Android Auto, CarPlay, or Tesla, or request it hands-free by voice from your favorite assistant already integrated into your phone, smartwatch, or car. Simply:“Hey Google/Siri/Alexa: Open my door.”.
What do I need?
-To enable Proximity Opening, you must activate location permission from the HOMYHUB app. Starting with Android 10, you need to enable the app's location in remote mode.“always allow”.
-Keep the activated global location from the mobile.
-Make sure that the Proximity Opening Notification is present in your notifications. Otherwise, Proximity Open won't work.
For "proximity opening" to work correctly, it is important that you follow these recommendations.
Proximity unlocking experiences vary depending on your phone brand. Therefore, for an optimal experience with this feature, we recommend:
For best results on Android phones
1 - Avoid Battery Saving Mode
2 - Avoid "Do Not Disturb" mode, so you can see proximity unlock notifications on your lock screen. You can also enable HOMYHUB notifications to appear in "Do Not Disturb" mode from your phone's notification settings.
3 - On Huawei, Xiaomi, Samsung and other devices, disable battery settings that can disable the App in the background, such as: "Automatically manage or Background restrictions." You can probably find it in Settings > Battery > Apps > HOMYHUB. There, enable the App toNobecome inactive orNohave background power restrictions.
This is because if the phone doesn't notify you in a timely manner when the app is in the background that you've entered the "Inside Home" state, the app will be able to open the door for you.
For best results on iOS mobiles
For optimal results from the automatic launch, make sure the app is running in the foreground or background when you leave home and return. This is due to how location services work on iOS.
